Next-Gen Flying: The Joy of Learning by Doing

One of the big advantages of next-gen flying personal aviation is the direct connection you have with your aircraft — and the opportunity to truly understand it inside and out. Yesterday was a perfect example.

Together with my friend Jos Schwind, I carried out my very first small maintenance on my Blackwing: changing the oil and oil filter, plus a general inspection — checking wheel tyre pressures, fittings, attachments, screws… all the little details that keep a high-performance aircraft in perfect condition. I have almost 150 hours on the counter, but prepare for a long trip to the North

Under Jos’s guidance, I learned so much — not just the “how”, but also the “why” behind each step. This hands-on knowledge makes next-gen flying even more rewarding and builds confidence far beyond the cockpit.

The cost? Just €30 plus three bottles of oil. The experience? Absolutely priceless.
