Chronicle.lu covers the Private Pilot Expedition to Georgia 2026

On Saturday 29 August 2026, nine light aircraft took off from Luxembourg Airport bound for Georgia — and Chronicle.lu were there to cover the departure.

The full feature by Chronicle.lu, published on 31 August, walks through the shape of the expedition: 26 aircraft, around 60 pilots and passengers, eleven countries, 7,400 km, and the highlight of the trip — the grand opening of the Ambassadori Aviation Village in Kakheti, where the group will be the very first international guests.

The article includes an interview with expedition organiser Peter Sodermans, who describes the initiative as “Schengen in the air”:

“For me, this is much more than flying a group of small aircraft across Europe. We are flying for four days across the continent to reach Kakheti, Georgia, for the grand opening of the Ambassadori Aviation Village, and our expedition will have the privilege of being its very first international group of guests.”

The piece also carries a statement of support from H.E. Vakhtang (Vato) Makharoblishvili, Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Head of the Mission of Georgia to the European Union, who has backed the initiative from the beginning:

“This expedition reaches far beyond a mere aviation journey — it stands as a powerful platform to deepen cooperation between Georgia and Luxembourg, build stronger bridges among citizens, and widely promote Georgia and its cultural heritage.”
