Why AOPA Luxembourg Matters More Than Ever
Flying has been part of my life for decades. Not only as a pilot, but as someone who firmly believes that general aviation is a freedom worth protecting.
In recent years, it has become increasingly clear that this freedom does not defend itself. Access to airfields, proportionate regulation, and fair treatment of private pilots and aircraft owners are often taken for granted — until they begin to disappear like we see in Luxembourg
That is precisely why AOPA Luxembourg matters.
AOPA is not a club for a select few. It is the collective voice of pilots and aircraft owners who care about:
- keeping general aviation alive, accessible and respected,
- ensuring that decisions are taken with pilots, not about them,
- and safeguarding the future of flying for the next generation.
Over the years, AOPA Luxembourg has worked — often discreetly and sometimes against strong headwinds — to represent our community, engage constructively with authorities, and defend the interests of general aviation in Luxembourg and across Europe.
Today, AOPA is calling on pilots and aircraft owners to step forward, become involved, and help shape its future.
Not because it is glamorous.
But because it is necessary.

If you fly — or if you own an aircraft — you already understand how special this world is. Supporting AOPA, joining it, or helping to steer its direction is a meaningful way of giving something back to the community that gives us so much in return.
This week, we shared a farewell dinner with the outgoing AOPA Luxembourg board. It was a cosy dinner filled with friendship, reflection and gratitude. For me, the monthly AOPA board meetings — often followed by a dinner like this — were genuinely a highlight of each month for the past decade. They were moments of open discussion, shared convictions and, above all, camaraderie among people who care deeply about aviation.

Times are changing, as they always do. My own chapter is coming to an end, and now it is time for others to step forward and take up the baton. AOPA needs fresh energy, new ideas and committed pilots and aircraft owners who are ready to continue the work. I leave with confidence, knowing that the strength of AOPA lies precisely in this ability to renew itself while staying true to its purpose.
I warmly encourage you to take a moment to look at the work of AOPA Luxembourg and consider getting involved.
Because our freedom to fly deserves committed people behind it.
✈️
With a warm heart for AOPA Luxembourg.
